Recap: KubeCon Europe 2022 - Back to In-Person Events
Just got back from KubeCon Europe 2022 in Valencia, Spain. First major in-person event after the pandemic, and it was good to be back. Here’s what stood out.
Getting Back to In-Person Events
Traveling to Valencia came with some COVID-related concerns, but reconnecting with the Kubernetes community made it worthwhile. KubeCon was my first major Kubernetes event years ago, so was curious to see how things have evolved.
The event was held at Valencia Fairgrounds with record attendance. Valencia’s public transport (bus, train, tram) made getting around straightforward even without a metro.
Notable Talks
Some sessions worth mentioning:
- Mercedes-Benz’s Kubernetes Journey: Seven-year retrospective covering team structures and scaling challenges
- Le Thran on Open Source: Discussion on contributing to CNCF projects from someone at Kasten.io
- Ephemeral Containers by Aaron Alpar: Practical session on debugging Kubernetes pods using ephemeral containers
- Disaster Recovery: Rick Spencer and Wojciech Kocjan from InfluxData shared lessons from accidentally deleting a production cluster
- Developer Experience: Thomas Vitale and Mauricio Salatino on simplifying Kubernetes for developers
Some popular talks like the one on exploiting Kubernetes clusters via Prometheus were too packed to get into.
Wrap-up
Valencia was a solid location - good food, architecture, and culture outside the conference hours. KubeCon Europe 2022 showed the community is still going strong despite recent challenges. Looking forward to the next one.
